Postdoctoral Scientist (Natural Products Chemistry, NMR)

At the Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences,
University of Basel, the position of a
Postdoctoral Scientist (Natural Products Chemistry, NMR)
is available.
We seek a highly motivated and skilled scientist with a flair for modern natural products discovery and characterization. The successful applicant will be involved in bioactivity-driven natural products discovery projects on our technology platform for HPLC-based activity profiling combining on-line (PDA, MS) and off-line (microprobe NMR) spectroscopy with bioassays that are operated in house or with local and international co-operations. He/she will have the overall-responsibility for our NMR instrument (500 MHz, with Bruker 1 mm TXI and 5 mm BB probes, and autosampler).
For more information on the technology platform and current research, please consult our website at http://www.pharma.unibas.ch
We expect strong expertise in structure elucidation by means of modern spectroscopic and chemical methods. In particular, hands-on experience in high-field NMR using advanced pulse sequences, and a sense for organizing NMR support for multidisciplinary projects. Experience with chemometric data analysis would be desirable.
We expect also some participation in teaching, specifically in a phytochemistry lab course at the MSc level.
A scientific track record documenting the ability for high-quality research is expected.
We offer an attractive and stimulating setting in an international and highly productiv group.

The position is funded for 2 years initially, with possibility for extension, and is available per March 1, 2012, or at the earliest possible date.
