Open PhD Position in Molecular Biology / Chemical Biology / Biochemistry

The group of Prof. Christian Heinis (Laboratory of Therapeutic Proteins and Peptides; http://isic.epfl.ch/lppt) at the EPFL in Lausanne offers a PhD position in molecular biology. In our laboratory we are developing bicyclic peptides binding with high affinity and specificity to disease targets for potential use as therapeutics (Heinis, C., et al., Nat. Chem. Biol., 2009).
The PhD project aims at generating bicyclic peptide binders to lipids or regulators of lipid homeostasis to study the biology of the lipids in cells, and to potentially developing a novel therapeutic strategy. The work involves molecular biology techniques (phage display, directed evolution), chemistry (peptide synthesis) biophysical techniques (ELISA, SPR) and biochemical techniques. The project will be performed in collaboration with members of the EU network ‘SPHINGONET’.

Applicants must hold a PhD degree in biochemistry, chemistry or a related field.
Entrance date: February 1 – December 1, 2012
To apply for the position, please send a letter of motivation and a CV to Prof. Christian Heinis (christian.heinis@epfl.ch) or apply via the SPINGONET portal (www.spingonet-itn.eu)
